WE ARE HIRING SPECIALITY FINISHES ARTISTS AND ASSISTANT ARTISTS
(Casual, with scope to become permanent)
Scanlan & Makers is seeking experienced artists, specialty painters, specialty plasterers, scenic artists and muralists to join our supportive and professional team based in Abbotsford, Melbourne.
The Role
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Highly skilled application of fine and custom architectural finishes in the ‘Scanlan & Makers’ style to premium projects across Melbourne, country Victoria and beyond. This will include knowledge and preparation of substrates, application of base layers, application of speciality and natural paint finishes, application of texture and polished plaster, and for the right candidate fine finishing of custom work.
• Pre and post production assistance at our Abbotsford workshop and on-site. This may include packing for and unpacking from jobs, assistance with colour and sample creation, general maintenance of the workplace (shared with the whole team).
• Driving to and from site in one of our work vehicles when required
• You will manipulate colour and form in a way that enables you to ‘balance’ and refine a wall finish like an artwork to create spectacular experiences for our clients.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential:
• Must have a valid Victorian Drivers Licence
• Must be available to work construction industry hours when required, be willing to work at heights and be able to apply multi-layer finishes using hand tools (brushes, trowels etc).
• Must have a strong work ethic, eye for colour, form and detail, be solutions focused, show strong initiative and work seamlessly and efficiently as part of a team. Our work is highly creative and rewarding, but we work hard to achieve this.
• Must be willing and able to adapt your own aesthetic to reflect that of Scanlan & Makers’, and be able to take on feedback to achieve this. This includes being able to take on and action complex instruction.
• Portfolio or images showcasing your work and skill.
Desirable:
• White Card (Construction Induction Card)
• EWP licence
• Demonstrable experience or qualification/s in Fine Art (painting), Commercial Speciality Finishes Painting, or Specialty Plastering will be regarded highly.

Scanlan & Maker’s are an innovative and creative company blending fine art and commercial finishes within the construction industry. We are a female-led, close-knit team of four with extensive experience across the visual arts and commercial paint, plaster and colour.
